    The Fair Housing Act protects people from discrimination when they are leasing or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or participating in other housing-related activities.

    The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of:

    - Race.
    - Color.
    - National Origin.
    - Religion.
    - Sex.
    - Familial Status.
    - Disability.
    What Is Prohibited?

    In the Sale and Rental of Housing:

    It is illegal discrimination to take any of the following actions since of race, color, faith, sex, special needs, familial status, or national origin:

    - Refuse to rent or sell housing.
    - Refuse to negotiate for housing.
    - Otherwise make housing not available.
    - Set different terms, conditions or privileges for sale or leasing of a dwelling.
    - Provide a person various housing services or centers.
    - Falsely deny that housing is offered for examination, sale or leasing.
    - Make, print or release any notification, statement or ad with respect to the sale or leasing of a home that shows any choice, restriction or discrimination.
    - Impose different prices or rental charges for the sale or leasing of a house.
    - Use various certification criteria or applications, or sale or rental requirements or procedures, such as income standards, application requirements, application charges, credit analyses, sale or rental approval treatments or other requirements.
    - Evict a tenant or a tenant's visitor.
    - Harass an individual.
    - Fail or delay efficiency of maintenance or repairs.
    - Limit opportunities, services or facilities of a house.
    - Discourage the purchase or leasing of a house.
    - Assign a person to a particular structure or neighborhood or section of a structure or community.
    - For revenue, encourage, or try to convince, house owners to offer their homes by suggesting that individuals of a specific protected characteristic will move into the neighborhood (blockbusting).
    - Refuse to offer or discriminate in the terms or conditions of property owners insurance since of the race, color, religion, sex, impairment, familial status, or national origin of the owner and/or residents of a dwelling.
    - Deny access to or membership in any numerous listing service or property brokers' organization.
    In Mortgage Lending:

    It is unlawful discrimination to take any of the following actions based upon race, color, religion, sex, special needs, familial status, or national origin:

    - Refuse to make a mortgage loan or provide other financial assistance for a residence.
    - Refuse to provide details regarding loans.
    - Impose various terms or conditions on a loan, such as different rates of interest, points, or charges.
    - Discriminate in evaluating a dwelling.
    - Condition the accessibility of a loan on an individual's reaction to harassment.
    - Refuse to purchase a loan.
    Harassment:

    The Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to bug persons since of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin. To name a few things, this prohibits sexual harassment.
